A cruise around the largest Great Egret and Great Blue Heron rookery in the U.S. Great Lakes
Did you know that the egrets and herons that nest in the West Sister Island National Wildlife Refuge rookery travel an 18 mile round trip, just to feed their young?
Learn more on a sunset cruise around West Sister Island on the Jet Express. This unique experience will highlight the largest Great Blue Heron and Great Egret rookery in the U.S. Great Lakes! Researchers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be on board to tell you more about the rookery.
West Sister Island National Wildlife Refuge is a designated wilderness area which means means that access to the island is by permit only. It also means that maintenance crews can only use hand tools on the island!
The Jet Express operates four 220 passenger water jet propelled catamarans in the western basin of Lake Erie. The vessel's three levels provide ample indoor and outdoor seating and wildlife viewing opportunities. Hors-d'oeuvres are included in your ticket price and a cash bar will be available. Restrooms are available on board.
The ferry boards at 6:30pm from the Jet Express dock, 3 Monroe St, Port Clinton, Ohio and will return by 9:00pm.
General admission tickets for $100 will be available starting March 1st. Proceeds from this event will help to support our conservation work at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.
