There are currently no tickets available for this event, but you can still make a donation.

Remember this? Monarch butterflies descended on Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge in September 2018. Now you have a unique opportunity to help support conservation efforts where it matters most.

With this symbolic adoption, you receive:

  • Unique tag code to follow and “naming rights” for your butterfly
  • Personalized video of your monarch being tagged & released
  • Certificate of Adoption
  • Ottawa Refuge Monarch Patch
  • Pack of common milkweed seeds to help create habitat for monarchs in your own backyard

Adoptions will be processed in the order in which they are received. You will receive a unique tag code and video when your monarch is ready to fly! Tags are a small sticker that observers can use to record the location of your butterfly in the Monarch Watch database. Monarchs are being tagged and released throughout August and September, but potentially as late as October.

Want to name your butterfly? Let us know when you checkout. Butterfly releases are a great, eco-friendly alternative to balloon or lantern releases in honor or in memory of loved ones.

Because you will receive a unique tag code, this type of adoption is limited to the number of butterflies we have to release. If the website says that we are sold out, check back soon.

Donations help to support conservation efforts at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge including land restoration, youth services, and public access projects.
